We'll join, we'll start this webinar in few minutes. Thank you for joining this call. Hello all, very good afternoon and thank you for joining today's webinar. This webinar is not just a webinar to share our experience, to share our knowledge on this subject, but this webinar is primarily to also talk about our experiences to talk about the demo of biput what we call the Tableau to Power BI Migration accelerator. Before we start off the webinar I would like to thank everyone who is present on this meeting, you know, virtual webinar and yeah, I am glad you are excited to understand to know more details about this accelerator which was built by Parity.

03:53

Harish Cholleti
So we will wait for a couple of more minutes so that the expected audience will be joining this meeting and just want to give you a heads up that you know, the mute, I mean every attendee, you know it has been, I mean your mic and your camera is disabled for the convenience and you can use our Q and A window to post if you have any questions. You know you can post as the webinar is happening and the questions will be answered towards the end of the webinar. Thank you all for joining this webinar. I'm glad, I'm glad to see a lot of interest coming out from the, you know, BI enthusiasts. It is very glad to see these many people attending.

05:03

Harish Cholleti
I know the industry, shifting the industry, the Chief Intelligence, sorry CIOs directors, BI are looking at Tableau to Power BI migration so but it has been there on the cards for several years. But the several challenges have been stopping the migration accelerator. Okay, so I'm sharing my screen so that we will use a quick. Sunil, can you just confirm if you can see the screen?

06:18

Sunil Batchu
Yes Harish, I can see it.

06:20

Harish Cholleti
Thank you. So welcome all to this webinar where we'll talk about our experiences and our overall experience of Tableau to power BI migration and also the reasons behind the Tableau to go Power BI migration accelerator development and you'll also experience the, you know, demons experience the tool via virtual demonstration. Thank you all for joining this event. So I would like to quickly introduce today's, you know my colleague who will also be helping me in terms of steering this webinar for you and the demonstration of the tool. He's Sunil Bachu. Sunil has been there in the industry for about 25 years. A Togaf Certified Enterprise Architect, 23 years plus experience in TCS and then now he's leading the you know, AI practice and also the data practice at Parity. Welcome Sunil, thank you for joining this webinar. You're on mute.

07:30

Sunil Batchu
Thank you Harish. Yeah.

07:31

Harish Cholleti
Okay. So my name is Harish. I am. I work with. I work with sparity as director sales and customer success. So before we go in detailed about the webinar and to understand I know you are all waiting for the you know demonstration of the product but I will take couple of minutes to introduce what parity is. So sparity. 14 years in the industry still in a young IT services company always striving to identify the enterprise challenges and try to solutionize them and provide solutions to our customers. So overall we have about 300 plus passionate engine is based india, Atlanta, Georgia and Sydney, Australia. So so far we have 100 plus client engagement. So what differentiates us is basically trying to identify the pain areas for our customers trying to solve.

08:32

Harish Cholleti
So this is using accelerator and then building frameworks that can expedite clients digital transformation journey and go to much faster go to time go to market. And we are very strong Microsoft and AWS partners driving cloud implementations and also data centric solutions. So this with this again just want to you know add. We are a ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified company. So that shows our commitment in terms of quality and you know cybersecurity information security requirements of the enterprise. Yeah. As I said in the opening statement Tableau to Power BI migration or SAP BO to power any tool. Most of the enterprises want to migrate to Power BI because Microsoft offers very lucrative deals on Office365. That too power BI being on the suite of Microsoft it is very, I mean maintenance less and so that makes enterprises up for Power BI.

09:53

Harish Cholleti
So that's the reason 80% of the global technology leaders are considering from migrating from Tableau to Power bi. So but what stops them? You all know, right? Manual migration is slow, expensive and there could be a lot of errors. And at the same time one of the challenges with BI environments is this lack of documentation. And in between the tableau, the way IT functions and the Power BI functions is a little different. Right. So where complex calculations migrating manually is one of the challenging area. So that's the reason that is also the reason that the enterprises stop migrating from Tableau to Power bi. However you know, instead of taking you through features and then a full ppt. I don't want to bore you today but just want to cover the top four features of our tool.

10:55

Harish Cholleti
One is we crush the migration timelines by 50%. This, this, I mean there are several people who say, who claim that but we have successful case studies in doing so. That's the reason we crushed migration time loans by 50%. So we have intelligent formula conversions so thereby reducing you know, errors and we generate a lot of documentation throughout this process. So that ensures we have seamless power bi you know, adoption with minimal disruption. That said, I don't want to take much of the time on the PPT but I want to pass on the baton to Sunil to demo the tool for us. Yeah, so this tool is a web based migration assistant. There are three utilities, Analyze, convert and migrate.

11:56

Harish Cholleti
Before even going in detail of the tool, I would like to quickly take you through the you know, tableau report that we are considering for the demonstration. I mean demonstration of the migration. So if you look at this tool, today's Tableau report is basically a superstore downloaded from Tableau Cloud. It has about six dashboards, 14 visuals. If you look at tooltips then cards, map view area view slices and filters. What are every all feature BI has all of those details are there. So it's about 14 dashboards as I mentioned and it includes bar chart, map chart area chart, I mean the circle chart, bar plus gantt chart and then map view tables and all of them. So now one question. You could use either the chat window to you know, answer this question.

13:07

Harish Cholleti
Assume if you are given, you know, if you have to manually migrate this tableau report, how much time does you do you, does it take for you? Any, any, any response? It could be on the chat window. We just want to, you know, enter I mean encouragement an interactive way in the webinar might be. It can be considered medium complex. Yeah. So in typical language it's a medium complex report. And then it has, I mean it has a single data Source and about 12 calculations. Now we will take this report and then use our migration assistant to, I mean to go in details. Now as I said, there are three utilities. Analyze, convert and migrate.

14:03

Harish Cholleti
So when we select analyze all that, what we have to do is upload this tableau file, GWP file and then wait for a few seconds we'll get a documentation. So this documentation is very interesting. If you look at the document, I mean the, you know, migration assistant is taking a couple of seconds to create the documentation. Yeah, here is the documentation. Once we open the documentation, there are two files. One is a cumulative summary and second is a detailed summary of the Workbook. Now the cumulative summary of the workbook, There are about six dashboards and 14 visuals. If you look at all the types of the visuals are presented here, then follows the data source and then last is the number of calculation.

14:57

Harish Cholleti
With this, the developer who is going to migrate will get a fair understanding of what tableau report are we going to migrate. Now the, is now the turn is for detailed documentation of this workbook. This analysis report presents you the, I mean in detail of that workbook. What are the different calculations, what are the different tables, what is the semantic mapping, and so on and so forth. So as we said, it has one data source, 14 worksheets, six dashboards, 12 calculations and filters. Yes. So initially we present the data sources and then next the semantic mapping, and then next the joins and then the. Yeah, semantic mapping here. What is the orders table, what is the mapping value and so on and so forth. Detailed, you know, decoding of the tableau file.

15:54

Harish Cholleti
Now when you look at this, you know, thing, what do you think? Do you, do you think this kind of documentation will help? You can use the chat window. Meanwhile, we will cover the entire, we cannot cover the entire 41 page, but we'll quickly glance through again. The third aspect is the worksheets in worksheet. What is the worksheet name? What is the type of the visual? Everything is documented here for the convenience of the developer and the slices with respect to that worksheet. So this is the detailed documentation that will help the developer in migration. Now we will go on to the second utility. The second utility as I mentioned is Convert. As you know, one of the challenge as I mentioned is leverage. I mean converting the tableau calculations or lobs or measures into equivalent DAX functions.

16:56

Harish Cholleti
Now with the help of this migration assistant we have, I mean the migration assistant is able to automatically convert the equivalent power BI tax function. Even a complex DAX function takes about a couple of hours. But this migration assistant will be able to convert it in few minutes. The only thing that the developer has to do is validate. Isn't it so easy? That's the convenience that we bring out the table. Now the third utility as I mentioned, is migrate. Now what we do is we create a power BI semantic file and then upload that semantic file here, which is just a semantic file. This semantic file is, you know, we use the, you know, tableau metadata, whatever we have used and reconstruct the visuals into semantic file.

17:56

Harish Cholleti
Now once we have, once we download the power BI file, you will be able to see the, you Know reconstructed visuals in the Power BI download file. So as we mentioned, There are about 14 visuals right? In these 14 visuals, as you know, the circle chart and then there are certain bar plus gantt chart is not available in Power BI as a native visual. This migration Assistant except those two visuals, rest of the 12 visuals are automatically migrated. So that's the power that this migration assistant brings to the table while we open the Power BI file. Do you have any questions? Do you have any comments on this migration assistant so far? You can either use chat window or if you have questions, please post onto the question and answer section. Is this only, I mean there's one chat.

19:18

Harish Cholleti
Is this only used for Power BI or any other tools existing Migration assistant is only for Tableau to Power bi. In fact there are a couple of customers who are interested in the other way around. Also we are currently working on Power BI to Tableau. But that said, I'll take a pause and also show you the effectiveness of the Tableau to Power BI migration. If you look at the conditional formatting as is migration, the colors, everything, then as we mentioned the circle chart, there is no equivalent. We are not able to automatically migrate here. And if you look at the segment analysis again here we have a conditional formatting table, then the area and then the line chart with the tooltips, interaction slicers and filters. Yeah.

20:27

Harish Cholleti
So here are the two visuals which are which we are not able to migrate, but rest of the 12 visuals were able to migrate. So the next question is from Dwarka. Yeah. What is the semantic file that you uploaded after step two? So yes, Dwarka, I would like to. Sunil, do you want to take this question? Sunil, you are on mute please.

20:56

Sunil Batchu
Yeah, the semantic file, what we have done is like there is a manual step involved over there. We need to connect to the source system that is like say for example, I have Azure SQL Server as my source, right? Like for the data. Then I will connect to the SQL server and connect to the schema so that like it generates a and save the file might be. I can show it here so that it is easy for you to understand. Say it's like you know, you go to get data and then might be whatever the data source, maybe data sources here, right? Like might be if it is SPL somewhat we go here and I will connect a server and database. The name either import or directory, right? Like, and then I'll just say okay and I will save that PBIP file.

22:00

Sunil Batchu
And on top of that what happens is we run an utility which is a batch script which we run which will integrate whatever the converted form does into this semantic file based semantic model that has been created using that. So this is how like we create the semantic model file which will be used to reconstruct the visuals that we have we are seeing on the screen.

22:32

Harish Cholleti
Thanks Sunil for.

22:33

Sunil Batchu
That's that answer.

22:34

Harish Cholleti
Yeah, thanks Sunil for the detailed answer. Just want to add on top of what Sunil said. Many of our customers initially, when we have a conversation when we show the demo, they're always excited you've done visual reconstruction, migration and also the analysis file generation using the metadata. But they also ask one more question. Why don't you create a power BI semantic model file semantic file 2 semantic data model file 2. Sunil, would you like to describe it? Why, why do we. I mean this is one of the people.

23:13

Sunil Batchu
This method shows this manual approach when we have the entire data, whatever the metadata available in the tableau file. That's a very good question to answer, Harish. That is like the way the both platforms deal the data model, right? Like the first one, that is tableau, that is source deals the data model in a in segmented view. What do I mean by that? Is like if you have a schema with 100 tables in your application or your, you know, data source and you need only 10 tables out of that to generate or to create your report, the tableau gets the view of only 10 tables. It will not get all the entire view of the 100 tables. Whereas the Power BI has the convenience that like it gets a view of the entire table.

24:16

Sunil Batchu
So instead of like, you know, recompiling everything, understanding all the tableau files to get the view, sometimes we may not even get the full view of the database if some of the tables are not being used. That's where like we thought like it's better go for the, you know, getting the entire view of the database and reconstruct on top of that so that like if on the next day, if a business user or power user wants to develop a new dashboard, he can do it. That's where like the advantage of the Power BI platform comes into picture.

25:01

Harish Cholleti
Yeah, excellent. Thanks for that detailed information, Sunil. So the next question that comes from Mittul is it possible to migrate from TWX file to PBIX file? Yeah, this fantastic question, Mithul. Yes, that's one of the area that we, that is in progress. We can convert a TWBX file to PBI file. Do you want to add anything, Sunil?

25:30

Sunil Batchu
Yeah, basically Most of the customers don't want to share their data. So that's where like we are going with the metadata. That's why like we build a solution around TWB files. But twbx file gives us easy comparison once we are done with. We need access to the data anyway to get the connected and all right. Like you know, that's where like we can rebuild all these visuals and you know, compare and that will be very useful during the testing phase.

26:07

Harish Cholleti
Yeah, fantastic. Thank you. So the next question is by Ashwin. Can we please have a look at the calculation from Tableau and Power bi? So Power bi you want to. Since the Power BI file is loaded, would you want to quickly show the DAX functions on Power BI and then later in the tool in the Migration Assistant? Yeah, here is the days to ship function which is automatically migrated from the migration assistant which is automatically loaded onto this file. So Sunil, do you want to quickly show the same thing on the yeah. Tab in our Migration assistant application?

26:58

Sunil Batchu
Sure.

26:59

Harish Cholleti
So can you quickly.

27:01

Sunil Batchu
Yeah.

27:01

Harish Cholleti
And then convert. Yeah, yeah. So hey, here is the output that you will be able to see the order order profitable ship status, whatever we have seen all of these are automatically migrated which are just copied and I mean which is, you know, put it onto the semantic model. So again there's another question from Ashwan Sunil. How are parameter. How parameters are handled Parameters also being.

27:46

Sunil Batchu
Migrated the same way how you know, almost like you know both the Power BI and Tableau we get the, you know, backend metadata about that and then we'll migrate exactly as is to the Power bi.

28:07

Harish Cholleti
Awesome. So there's another question being typed. Power BA only able to publish one GB data source on server. What happens if they exacted the limit on data excited the limit on data sources when you migrate it.

28:27

Sunil Batchu
Sure Harish, that's interesting question. That is a limit of the limitation of the platform that like we have on the Power bi. But Power BI premium, if customers are going with the Power BI premium, then they get additional, you know, data volumes, right. Like up to 10gb. But now if they are migrating to fabric might be they get additional, you know, advantage that like the amount of the data volumes, right like that is still going up. So these are the things however like if we want the high performance on the Power bi right Particularly when the huge volumes of the data is being there that time. Like we have alternate methods to improve the performance of the Power BI dashboards.

29:25

Sunil Batchu
For example like we may use like aggregation function on fact tables so that like the fact being fact like till yesterday, whatever is there, we can have the aggregation and use that as a input to the, you know along with the current days factual data. So that's how like we are dealing the things. But it is not a limitation on the tool on this BA port migration. That is limitation of the you know, product platform that is coming with.

29:58

Harish Cholleti
Yeah. So that way what you suggest is upgrade from you know, Power BI to Power BI Premium. That that means newly it is carless fabric. That's good. Yeah. So Microsoft offers, you know, interesting. You know is offering interesting on fabric sku it. It not only offers, you know, at the price of Power BI but also a lot of, you know, features on fabric. So that said, we are just left with three minutes. If you have any questions we would like to take else we would like to just put up our differentiators. What differentiators do we bring to the table? And so what differentiators we bring to the table is basically we bring speed, we bring accuracy, we bring at the same time cost and also documentation and skill development. We solve the problem of skills too. So at Speed we have 50% market.

31:03

Harish Cholleti
In any other tool we are 50% faster and 80% accurate. And at the same time we have a very cost effective pricing model. And then all the documentation that gets generated is for your audit and also increases efficiency and skill. We are solving the problem of in the migration projects having two skills, tableau and Power bi. It is just one skill and it can serve the purpose. Here is one case study where we have served one of the customer. Where we have helped a customer with 630 reports a title in of eight months. We were able to complete this in six months. That is the power of this migration assistant. Since you have all joined in this webinar we would like to give you offer or you can claim your free 5 reports POC.

32:03

Harish Cholleti
Just send us your details on by portparity.com Our team will come back to you. We will have a conversation and give you five reports POC so that you can evaluate. You can build the trust on the migration assistant. That said, thank you for.

32:25

Sunil Batchu
There are a few other questions that came in. Would you mind sharing the casting info of this tool? That is from Dwarking?

32:35

Harish Cholleti
Yeah, I mean is it a very interesting question, Dwarka? As I said, we have a simple very fair pricing on the report model. So report here in the sense dashboard. It is not a workbook. We categorize the reports into simple, medium, complex. A simple report costs you at 600 medium cost you at $900 and complex report cost you 12. Where we own the entire life cycle of migrating from tableau to Power BI as is. I hope this satisfies your question. And is this connected to a local Excel file? Yeah, the Ashwant. Yes, the tableau file that we have picked up workbook we have picked up depends on Excel file. But this migration assistant can handle SQL, any kind of rdbms. This can handle any data sources that is accepted in Power bi. I think this is the last question.

33:51

Harish Cholleti
Power BI has limited parameter feature. If you migrate the tableau parameter to Power BI migration, what will be the impact?

34:01

Sunil Batchu
Let me take this question and limited parameter feature is like, you know, yes, there are some platform kind of differences but like the parameters work, you know, the same way that they work in the tableau. We haven't seen any challenges in migrating the parameters so far.

34:24

Harish Cholleti
Yeah, Sunil.

34:25

Sunil Batchu
Yeah, there are some complex issues when it goes to a really complex scenarios. But like most of the scenarios, like they are working good.

34:40

Harish Cholleti
Okay. So Sunil, you want to take the example of the recent, you know, calculation. Sorry, recent report which we migrated which had about 800 plus calculation inter. Interlinking of calculations. You want to take that example and how Power B has handled it?

34:58

Sunil Batchu
Yeah, sure. Like for one of our customers, like it was very complex, you know, report. It has like, you know, 190 visuals and in 17 dashboards and it has 30 plus parameters and then it has 800 plus calculated fields. So we have handled all those things. And it has Oracle as the backend database with the SQL proxy being there. So we could handle all these things with the migration.

35:39

Harish Cholleti
Thank you. With this note, I would thank everyone for attending this webinar and demo of our BI port. Okay, there's a last question. Apologies Ashwant, I missed it. I overlooked it. When you pass a TWP file, where did Power BI pick the local Excel data set? That's what Sunil was mentioning. Right. We will have to do a manual semantic model that is out of the scope of that at this moment. That is out of the scope of the tool. We will have to do a manual connection and then upload that Power BI semantic model file.

36:23

Sunil Batchu
That's correct.

36:24

Harish Cholleti
Am I, am I right?

36:26

Sunil Batchu
Yes. Okay, so we have connected manually. Ashwin, that step. We didn't show it explicitly here in the interest of the time.

36:40

Harish Cholleti
Okay, okay, that's what we. We got the acknowledgment that Ashwant got clarified. Any other questions? We're always available on biportripuatweb.sparity.com or you can reach out to us. You can reach out to us and we will, you know, contact you back and have much more detailed conversation. Thank you all. Thank you for, you know, being on this webinar and demo, but to talk about tableau to power bi migration, thank you so much. Thank you, Sunil.

37:15

Sunil Batchu
Thank you. Thanks. Thanks, everyone. Have a good one.
